'67th Berlin International Film Festival'!

Today is 61st Birthday of renowned Screenwriter and Filmmaker of Finland Aki Kaurismaki!
Aki Kaurismaki started acting in films!


He started working as an actor in his elder brother Mika Kaurismaki's films. Then they formed 'Villealfa Film Productions'!



In 1983 he first directed film 'Crime and Punishment' which was an adaptation of Dostoyeskyk's novel set in modern Helsinki! He was influenced by French filmmakers Melville and Bresson!

Aki Kaurismaki got first international recognition when he won 'FIPRESCI' Award for his film 'Ariel' (1988) in '16th Moscow International Film Festival'! After that he got fame worldwide with his film 'Leningrand Cowboys Go America' (1989).

Aki Kaurismaki directed 'Drifting Clouds' (1996).
He has satiric approach towards cinematic treatment! He writes, directs, produces & usually edits his films. He made short films & documentaries too!

He became famous Auteur with his 'Finland Trilogy' which includes 'Drifting Clouds' (1996), 'The Man Without A Past' (2002) & 'Lights In The Dusk' (2006).

 Last year his film 'The Other Side Of Hope' won 'Silver Bear Director' award at '67th Berlin International Film Festival'!
